Description

What is a Geitner cavesson?

Michael Geitner has designed a headpiece for horses. It is a Soft cavesson made from biothane and is fitted with replaceable soft pads on the noseband and headpiece.

The noseband has a ring in the centre of the bridge of the nose. All parts of the headpiece can be individually adjusted using buckles.

What is the difference between a Geitner cavesson and a normal cavesson?

The Geitner cavesson is made of very soft material manufactured. It has no nose iron and is also used by very sensitive horses well accepted. This model is very suitable for familiarising a horse with a cavesson.

However, as the cavesson does not have a fixed nosepiece, it can easily become distorted and, especially when pulled on the lunge line or by a strong horse, the information then only has a very spongy effect. This can also make it more difficult for the horse to understand.

For which lessons is a Geitner cavesson particularly helpful?

The Geitner cavesson is ideal for familiarising a horse with a lunging headstall. Even tricky, sensitive and very sceptical horses can be lunged more easily.

A cavesson is often unfamiliar, as it should lie close to the horse's head. It sits tighter than a stable halter or knotted halter, so that the Information transmission as precise as possible is.
A cavesson is particularly suitable for lunging and is actually a very old method. Even the old masters knew that a the guidance of the horse's head on the centre nose ring explains the position of the neck very well and support.
Lateral position and bending is a basic building block for optimally gymnasticising horses. The cavesson is a very easy-to-understand aid for this.

What should you bear in mind when using the Geitner cavesson?

Like any tool we use, the application is only as useful as the hand that uses it.

In principle, the headpiece should fit well and be the right size. If in doubt, we offer to check the fit of the cavesson by taking a photo.

The noseband should be about 2-3cm below the ends of the cheekbones.
Make sure that you always close the cheekpiece first before closing the noseband. Otherwise you will create more pressure on the poll and your horse can easily get stuck.
Make sure that the headpiece is adjusted so that you do not pull the cheekpiece backwards into the throat area, but rather forwards in front of the gullets. Also adjust the headpiece.

What size do you need for your horse?

The cavesson is very easy to adjust and can be ordered in all sizes.

  • Size S: Pony, small slim Arabians.
  • Standard size: Icelandic, small Tinker, Andalusian, Arabian, Haflinger, Freiberger, smaller warmbloods
  • Size Full: Warmblood, strong Freiberger, Andalusian/Lusitano with very long head, coldblood
  • Size XL: large cold-blooded horses
You will find a size chart at the end of the item description!

What alternatives are there to the Geitner cavesson?

We also recommend the Cavesson from Babette Teschen. The cavesson is made of high-quality beta-biothane. It has a three-part bit. The nose padding consists of a foam rubber core covered with neoprene. This padding ensures that the noseband fits snugly around the horse's nose. The two side rings of the noseband are positioned lower than is normally the case. This means that the cavesson can also be used for riding, double lungeing or work in hand in addition to simple lunging work.

We also like to use the Cavesal by Jossy Reinvoet. It is a mixture of a cavecon (French cavesson and bosal). It is also beautifully soft, well-made and offers many possibilities: it can be used as a halter, for lunging or for work in hand and also for riding with 2 or 4 reins.

General product information on the Geitner cavesson

The GKZ is made of supple Biothane, a synthetic leather. It is extremely robust and very easy to care for: simply wash with warm water and washing-up liquid and dry.

The cavesson has proven itself very well, does not expand and has a very good price-performance ratio.
The metal parts are rustproof and rounded.
You can also use the Nose and neck pads in all colours choose. They are easy to attach (using Velcro) and replace.
The Equikinetic lunge made from Biothane also fits the cavesson and is attached to the nose ring via a small carabiner.
